Is The Recall To Blame For Lower Camry Resale Values?

According to Toyota’s customers, the unintended acceleration controversy diluted the resale value of their cars. A few weeks ago, Toyota settled the class action lawsuit even though NHTSA never found a vehicle-based cause of those incidents. While we have seen data showing Camry reselling at a lower value relative to the midsize segment post-recall, ALG doesn’t think this effect was entirely driven by the recall – if at all. (more…)

First Drive: 2013 Toyota Avalon

The all-new 2013 Avalon marks an important turning point for Toyota’s North American operations, as well as for globalization of the auto industry. This marks the first time a Toyota project has had an American “chief engineer”—in Japanese companies, the Presidential figure with final say on any decision. In addition, the Avalon is fully designed, engineered, manufactured, and marked in North America; it will only be exported to the Middle East and South Korea markets.

Even though Japan had virtually no influence on the Avalon, its platform is now shared with the Japanese-built Lexus ES. A longer, wider, stiffer version of the global Camry chassis, the Avalon is built on the same exact line as the Camry and shares floorpan stampings.


ALG Announces 14th Annual Residual Value Awards

ALG, the industry benchmark for vehicle values and a leading provider of automotive insights, today announced the results of its 14th annual Residual Value Awards, with Honda and Acura earning the awards for top Mainstream and Premium brands, respectively. Acura returns to the top ranking among Premium brands after a two-year gap while Honda ranks highest after a three-year gap. While Acura and Honda claim the top spots, it was the Toyota family of brands that walked away with the most hardware – nine total – six awards for Toyota, two for Lexus and one for Scion. (more…)
